By David A. Stoler
First, I love my RF-1100. Comfortable, adjustable, dead quiet when locked, it has made riding a pleasure. I have zero complaints about it, and recommend it for anyone looking to buy a good helmet. I know people say you can get a good helmet for $50, and I had one before -- the upgrade, to be honest, is worth the cost.I am reminded of this because, second, Shoei's customer service sets a standard for any industry. I ride year round, and over the winter, dumbly, I dropped my Shoei from about four feet on to concrete. Not wanting to use my other helmet during the cold season (it's open faced), I continued to ride with the Shoei, but had my concerns about whether it was still structurally sound. As soon as the weather got warm enough for me to go back to my old helmet, I packed the Shoei up and sent it to their inspection unit -- a FREE service with every new Shoei.Well, as soon as I took my first ride with the other helmet, I wished I had my Shoei back. It was only in going back that I noticed just how much more comfortable and secure the Shoei was, how much better it fit, and how much more solid it felt.Today, just one week after I sent the Shoei off in the mail, I got it back from them. Not only did the helmet have no damage, but while they had it there the Shoei inspector updated some of the equipment on it to newer hardware! He gave it a new lower vent, and stronger base springs -- nothing that I asked for, but just because. Can you imagine an auto-repair place saying, "Yeah, your car passed inspection, and while we were checking it out we upgraded your windows to the newer model. Free of charge."? Or the cable guy? Or Verizon?Shoei rules. Small touches like this have made me a customer for life.

I purchased the helmet due to the Snell 2010 rating and excellent graphics. I have the conqueror in red. My other helmets are an AGV S4 and an AGV K3. The RF 1100 good points includes piece of mind with the Snell 2010 rating, safety first. The fit is very, very good with the liner coming down fairly low on the forehead as well which feel fine.I rode in 100 degree weather and the ventillation system was very good with the liner wicking up all sweat. The visor assembly is fantastic with a high quality feel and positive detents, it sounds and feels like a very high quality piece. The seal is excellent as well. The ear pockets are also excellent, allows a great fit for safety and still relieves a fair amount of pressure around the ears. The ear pockets also allow you to hear a bit more and better as well without adding excess noise. The strap system is a bit wider than normal so it is easy to get your strap secure and tightened down with a clip to keep the extra bits from whipping around at speed.I wear glasses. The helmet is hands down the best design I have ever experienced for glasses. The helmet has two built in channels so you can easily slide your glasses over your ears when the helmet is on, like magic and no twisting your glass frames. I love that. The CW-1 mirror visor is huge but rather expensive but completely worth the money. It works extremely well even in bright desert sun and makes for no distortion. It is perfect. The RF 1100 draw backs are minor. The visor should be adjusted by a dealer when you get your new helmet. The dealer has a factory shield template that allows for exact positioning of the base plate to completely eliminate any wind noise through the shield, impressive. The liner is great but absolutly loves to hook up with velcro. So, if you stick your gloves in your helmet when stopped, like I tend to do, you will find that glove velcro sticks like mad and can pull the liner off the EPS shield making you snap the liner it back in place. A pain, but you can work around this by carefuly placing you glove in the helmet. All in all an excellent helmet.

I bought this helmet as a replacement for my old Bell motorcycle helmet. This helmet far exceeds the Bell and my expectations. Wind noise is cut greatly and the fit of the helmet is much better. The production quality is great. I went with flat black and am really glad I made that choice.
